Looking into 90 rx-7
Hey guys, i am looking at a 1990 GSX rx-7. It hasnt been moved in over a year i think.
The lady selling it wants 1500 for it, but the down side is she says it kills itself every 5 min or so. So i went to her place and looked at it, fired it up and low and behold it killed itself after just 10 min.
She claims to have replaced the cam, starter and numerous other things and had diag. tests ran on it. I was thinking of taking it in and having a compression test ran on it.
Would running that test tell me what i need to know?
Let me know what you guys think.
BTW she says the rims alone are worth 1500... heh

When I first read this thread and saw GSX, my first thought was that Chuck55 was talking about an Eclipse. I quickly dismissed this thought, as sometimes people get the "GXL" trim level misspelled. However, after my initial confusion, I further became confused when I saw that the owner of the RX-7 in question replaced the "cam". As many people know, RX-7's don't have cams because they don't have pistons. Either way, someone was bullshitting you, or someone took advantage of that poor woman.
Anyways, get a compression check done on the car. I don't hold much faith in that motor as when the OMP (Oil-metering pump) goes out, the engine tends to die 5-10 minutes after being started due to lack of oil needed to maintain compression. If anything, offer her $500 for the car and get the engine rebuilt, as I'm sure it needs it.
Good luck and keep us posted.
