Looking to buy a 2nd Gen RX7, newbie ? about Turbos... >>>
I'm looking for a 2nd Gen Rx7 Turbo for a daily driver... I'm currently driving my 1991 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo Daily, and its quickly approaching the 100k mark, eek! (Just bought it back in March of 2000 w/ 82k miles!). Anyway, I'm having a lot of trouble finding a good turbo, or any turbo rx7s, and I'm looking to upgrade most stuff later anyway (suspension etc) so I don't need a turbo model, but I'm curious about the motors. Is the compression higher on the nonturbo motor? W/ 300ZXs I know you can't just slap a turbo on an NA motor and expect to turn the boost up to stock TT levels... Or at all for that matter, but being that I don't know much at all about Rx7's I'm just curious about options I have to putting a Turbo in a nonturbo chassis. Can you just swap the motor out from a turbo into an NA chassis, and just swap the electronics? Can you simply slap a turbo on a non turbo motor? what are my options if I decide to get an Rx7? Thanks... sorry for the idiocy of my questions, but I've go to start somewhere...

The 87 factory shop manual supplement (Racing Beat or Mazda dealer) Mazda P/N 9999-95-024b-87, actually covers the differences between a turbo and non-turbo models, as well as how to work on the turbo parts.
Generally what most people do if you have to have the T2 motor; is to get a wrecked T2 and pull the parts off onto the N/A. or fix the T2 with the body parts of a N/A.
