Exclamation Look what I found in my coolant

I took off my radiator cap to check my coolant and I found this orange rubbery/silicone thing floating in there. It freaked me out. So I took it out and stared at it for a while and couldnt figure out what it was. I looked around and thats all I found. I took some pictures of it to see if any1 knows what it may be. I hope its not a piece of my coolant seals

Another thing, I filled up my coolant and started the car. It was idling for a while when I heard water falling on the floor. I popped the hood and saw the overfill tank spitting out coolant like a faucet. I dint know what the temp gauge read because I was hypnotized by the stream of water. When it finished I went in to look at the gauge and it was at the 1/2 mark. I gave it some gas and the gauge went down pretty fast to alittle above the 1/4 mark. I left it idling some more and the gauge went up to almost 1/2 ways. I dont know whats wrong because when I drive it doesnt overheat. Always stays at the 1/4 mark Sorry for the long post.

heres the pics of the rubber thing:

How big is that? You need to tell us the scale.

Perhaps it's part of a gasket?

That doesn't look like a coolant seal. They are just very very big O rings. That's possibly silicone from a waterpump gasket or something.

Its 1 1/2" long and almost 1/2" wide on the widest part. I was thinking it was some sort of liquid gasket maker that comes in a tube. I guess thats what it is. Any1 know why my overfill tank spits out my coolant?

Do you have a pressure cap on the radiator or the thermostat housing? Pressure caps have a plunger on the bottom, in case you don't know the difference

I've seen orange crap like that in my coolant system before. Its just gasket sealer stuff I assumed. Flush your system and you should be fine.

What makes you guys think that thing passed through the overflow hose? That hose is pretty small.

He found it when he took off the radiator cap, so I doubt it ever made it that far.

when i used to work at a service station we called that stuff 'gorilla snot' it was yellow though...but will turn orange after time....we used it to seal up anything like waterpumps or to keep headgaskets inplace while we put on heads. its just aged silicone.

AHHHH Read the orig. post wrong

Seems like a good reason NOT to use that goop...If it clogs up the passages, you could be toast!
