Logicon/wiper switch warmup?

Logicon/wiper switch warm-up?

Let me preface by saying that I have owned several FCs previously and I have never experienced nor heard of this problem before. As the title suggests, I have what I would call a "warm-up" problem with my Logicon heater control unit and windshield wiper switch. Here's the problem:

Infrequently, when starting my NA '91 RX-7 Coupe in the morning cold, the Logicon and the wiper switch do not immediately become operable once the car has been started. That is to say, the lights, stereo and all other electronic components become operable once the car is running or the power switch is turned on. The Logicon and the wiper switch do not immediately become operable but rather will not function for a minute or two while they appear to have to "warm-up". After what I can best describe as a "warm-up" period, the Logicon and the wiper switch turn on and function as if no problem exists. To my knowledge the wiper switch has not been rebuilt but it functions properly on all speed settings. The alternator in the vehicle has only a couple thousand miles on it as well.

To say the least I am stumped by this weird problem. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Next time they don't work........try jiggling the key just a touch both ways. If power is restored to those items, then it's being caused maybe by the weight of serveral keys on your key chain?

Yep - Same thing happened to me. Does your sunroof also not work until the Logicon and wipers work? That's how mine was. The problem is caused by worn/dirty contacts in the ignition switch. You only need to change the back portion of the ignition switch, where the contacts are, which comes off with one screw. You don't need to change the lock part.

So all your other electronics worked (stereo, rear window defrost, headlight switch ECT) except the Logicon, wiper switch and sunroof? I don't know about my sunroof, I'll have to try it out the next time the problem occurs.

Thanks

UPDATE: After further investigation it turned out to be a faulty ignition switch, thanks to all who replied.

See HAILERS reply about "jiggling" the keys in ignition. I had similar problem as you with my '89 convertible....Logicon would light up with ignition on, but after engine cranks up, logicon would quit working for a variable time, then would magically start working again at some point. Looking at the troubleshooting guide in the FSM,it all pointed to the Logicon, so,after 1 used & 1 new Logicon installed, same problem. I'm thinking a relay of some sort. Driving me CRAZY! Then saw post about the keys, and VOILA! actual problem located! THANK YOU HAILERS & WHOEVER ELSE POSTED ABOUT THIS!!!
