locking passenger side door with the driver door lock (inside)

on my 1988 S4 N/A i could lock the passenger door by simply pulling down on the drivers door lock (inside). i tried this with my 1987 TII and i couldnt get it to work. yesterday i was looking at the wiring inside both cars doors and im missing a wire in the TII (the one that doesnt work). im assuming that last wire in the 3 pronged plug is what i need? was this a year specific option or what?? i been searching for hours with no luck.....
also searching in the FSM i had no luck.
maybe i missed that section? if i did could i get a link or some kind of guidance?
thanks.

I didn't see anything in the FAQ about locks, but maybe I'm just blind...

It sounds to me like you just don't have power locks. Do you have a solenoid?

yup, by looking at that it looked like it came out as an option ( on GXLs, TIIs, and Verts) in 88 and wasn't available before that.
