little black resistor box

Sorry I tried to use the search and I am currently having a problem getting the search to even begin (same with my pm box in deleting)

ANYWAYS.. you all know the little black resistor box that is bolted down to the keg behind/below the oil filter and it has a 1 pin connector that goes to the harness.. Well I think the one on the vert is broken because I have a open connector at the wire harness in that location and I cant see the wire comming off of my resistor.. now there is to problems with this situation.

1. the resistor is directly under the base of the oil filter

2. the bolt holding it down will not come loose and the head is now stripped

3. due to the posistion of the resistor I cant see the entire thing but I think the wire is broken off of it

now this car is having some hard start probelms (more so when warm).. not sure if it has anything to do with anything but what does that resistor do and what will it do if it is NOT connected..

the car is a 89' n/a vert auto

I'm pretty sure that is actually a capacitor that basically smooths out the oil pressure gauge. It should have no effect on anything else.

I second that, little things like that are typically a cap to filter out noise in a signal. They use the exact same thing on the B2200s to filter out noise from the distributor.
