ok, so i was cleaning my car the other day and I attempted to use brawn multi-surface cleaner on my ashtray (fortunately taken out of the car) it cleaned it very well, so well, that a few minutes lated it had turned a hideous shade of yellow

SOLUTION: I whipped out the Krylon Special Purpose Laquer (black of course) and sprayed a few coats on the door of the ashtray (i taped up the little "push to open" thingy) voila showroom shine and new looking. matches the rest of the console perfectly.
