This problem has NEVER been addressed before, so there was no need to do a search for it.
That said, I believe there is a Moderator named IceMark who sort of skirted around this subject one day a year or two ago.
If memory serves, it was a problem with the HEADLIGHT HARNESS at the light switch. You pull the plug off and look into the plug to see if the pins/sockets in the plug have been burnt/melted or not.
First of all, before you remove the switch and do the above, you make sure the fuse is good. Or not. Illumination fuse...er, ah, I think.
The headlights themselves do NOT work off that fuse. You turn the switch and you put a ground on one of the headlight relays, and they come up and light up.
The tail lights and instrument cluster light are different. You turn the **** and you send power from the green/white wire in the plug, to the tail, side lights, cigar light and other places, via the switch.
So, make sure the fuse is good. If so,then pull the instrument surround off and pull the elect plug off the switch and look for burnt pins/sockets. If the wiring looks good, then get a piece of wire bare at each end. Put one end in the green/white wires socket on the elect plug and the other end of that new wire into the socket of the Red/Black wires socket. The tail and side light WILL come on if the fuse is good. If they do, then jumper the white/green wire to the Red/Green wire. The instrument panel lights and cigar light will now come on.
If the lights work after doing those two things, then the switch is bad. Replace same with a known good one.
If the tail and side lights don't come on when jumpering, then get a meter out and see if there is power on the white/green wire.
This failure is usually caused by some aftermarket noise box being installed or the like, and the W/G or R/G or R/B is used for that aftermarket noise box i.e. drawing too much current.
