Ive had experiences with both aluminum and steel lightened flywheels on my daily driver. Both were great.

Aluminum flywheel: To me it was easy to drive around with. I drove everywhere with it and it didnt bother me at all. It was great. After a month or so, my new clutch started slipping very badly with this flywheel. It got so bad the clutch would start slipping and wouldnt grip if I floored the gas while cruising (5th gear 40-50mph). Could have been the shops fault but they said that other people were complaining about it too. Who knows

Steel: The shop gave me a steel flywheel and new clutch. Steel flywheel seemed a tad bit heavier but I liked it. Traffic or hills werent a problem for me. Engine revved faster and the engine felt more responsive just like the aluminum one. I still have it on my GXL to this day.

Why is it that people are comfortable buying a crazier clutch/pressure plate package for their cars but when it comes to buying a lightened flywheel, they act like the car wont be streetable with it?

If you have the money, I say go for it.

I just put in a RB aluminum flywheel, and anyone who complains probably has never had one and is just going on what theyve heard. I notice almost no differance starting, normally, i maybe have to slip it a tad more. revs rise and fall quicker. It make a HUGE differance in first and second gear. The only time youll ever have trouble is starting in first on a hill, believe me i live on a really really steep hill, and its hard to get going, especially since im parked on dirt. I like it better for stop ad go trafic, i live in the bay area and 238. and 880 etc are allways clogged up. Rev matching is SOO much better too. I saw a page once that did the math on the increases, and on a stock NA fc it was equivalent too: 50 HP in first, 17HP in second, 7 HP in third, and 2 HP in forth, i got mine used for 300 bucks shipped on thepartstrader.com. I highly reccomend this mod, youll definatly feel the differance.

Does the engine idle ok with the aluminum flywheel?
I'm overhauling my 87 T2 right now should I go light steel or aluminum for street use?
