Let's Play: What's that sound?
So I wake up at 5Am this morning to go to the gym and start the 7. Cranks normally and as I let her warm up for a minute as usual, I notice that she is loud...really, really loud...like the exhaust has opened up right beneath me. Hmmm.
As I drive, in first gear only from a stop, the engine noise is crazy loud and I hear an almost metallic chatter or vibration. I drive back home after the gym and when it is light...go look under the car. No fluids dripping, nothing hanging down, nothing seems out of the ordinary in the engine bay or beneath it. I won't have access to a lift for a few days so I can't get a really good view of where the sound seems to be emanating.
The car is an S5 Streeport with about 40k on the engine. Power seems normal iin all gears...just first from a standstill it is obnoxiously loud all of sudden and that metal noise. Any thoughts from the Rotary Gods?
Thanks!

My downpipe cracked as I went over some train tracks which made it crazy loud. Could have happened with you if your downpipe is rusted.
Otherwise the rattling could indicate a loose piece of pipe (which would leak the exhaust and make it loud). You'll probably have to get it on a lift to check.
