I have an 88 N/A and am trying to read the error codes with the LED error code setup. I have gone back through the write up and seem to be missing something.

To check the LED's I hold the leads on to the battery terminals and they light up. When I install the leads (Correctly) into the test plug and turn the ignition on they do not light up for the few seconds to show me they are working.

Any ideas why they would not light up? I am wondering if the computer may be faulty.

Clean the contacts in that green plug. Mine were fairly corroded and was doing the same thing. Or the LEDs you bought require too much amperage. You need 200mA or less LEDs.

 

unless the s4's are different fro the s5's you take a single peice of wire from the SMALL GREEN SINGLE CONTACT connector on the fire wall neer the battery and the coils. jam the wire in the contact, and stick the other end on the negative pole of the battery. thats it. now turn the car on but dont start it then get the codes off of the flashing check engine light on the idiot display.(in think the codes are listed on teamfcs3.org, should be able to find it easily on google) and diagnose away.

 

dont worry about leds the check engine light does it for you

 

s4's have no check engine light, make sure you have the poisitive leads both going to one spade connector(red wires), and the negative leads on separate spades(black wires) then, looking at the plug with the side with the clipy thinks on it(not the flat side) plug the black leads into the 2 farthest left female spades, the black wires should be one on top of the other, then take the red wires spade, and plug it in the the top female spade connector next over fromt he black wire. its should illuminate for liek 4 seconds when you turn the ignition on. also as previously stated, make sure your led's use a resistor, and dont draw to much current, or it wont work. teamfc3s.org has a visual explanation in the tech section, which would explain what wires go where alot less complicatedly than i do.
