LED conversion, rehosted, update
I had posted a thread about converting the lighting to red LEDs. Well, the account that I had that hosted the pics was closed (university account). Well, I have webspace elsewhere, so here's the article for the conversion, complete with pictures.

There are a few drawbacks to this conversion. One of them is that the needles on the gauge are unlit (they are lit from the front). The original needles can't be lit, so you'll have to source a needle lighting kit (available online), and needles that can be lit from behind.
One of the updates I'm doing is that I've replaced the CD player with a stock cassette player (though I'll either replace or repair it since the LCD is unreadable), and I'll be adding three Stewart Warner performance gauges (fuel pressure, oil pressure and oil temperature). What's nice about these gauges is that you can convert them to LED backlighting by simply swapping the bulb.
Plus, I want to relocate the indicators from the cruise control switch to the cluster. The 3-spoke steering wheel blocks the view, and it's a dangerous distraction to have to crane your neck to see if they're lit (it was designed with the 2-spoke wheel in mind).
Also, instead of using paper, which can fade and yellow over time, I'm going to see if painting the inside of the switches with reflective paint will work.
One last thing: make sure you insulate the leads. I shorted out the sunroof button LEDs because I forgot to insulate them. They went out with a pop, crackle, and smoke.
