I think it was around $6 per bulb, and let me tell you, they are not bright enough. You don't want to use them as brake lights.

At the time (again, that was at least one year ago), it seemed you had to shell about $40 to get a bright enough led bulb. Maybe good ones can be had for far cheaper now, but I dunno.

Hugues -

Your findings confirm 86GXL's...not bright enough!

The bulbs from www.jamstrait.com especially the Hyper-Bright versions are designed for use behind color tinted lenses. In fact they don't recommend them behind clear lenses because they are blinding!

this is what we want!

I can't find these in the local auto-parts stores, so I guess that I will have to 'mail order' them.

my 2 cents: leds have a much longer life than incandescent bulbs (usually around 10 000 hours, so they should outlive the car). Also, LEDs light up faster, so the sooner the jerk riding yer *** sees them, the sooner they start to stop. I've heard this translates to about 10 feet of stopping distance at hiway speeds.

Yo,

Bump for the other thread.

Looks like www.jamstrait.com is down or dead...

Anyone order from them lately?

This is just an update for anyone getting the cheapo LED's for replacements off ebay. I got mine about a year ago, not as bright as the original bulbs, helped the drop in idle speed when pressing the brake, came on quicker, but.... they are now dead. You can hardly tell that they are lit with the marker lights, and they don't light when hitting the brake pedal. And no I haven't got electircal problems, the original bulbs work fine since I put them back in.

Many people don't realise that you need quite a few very bright LED's to get the same amount of light as a conventional incandescent bulb, and that makes the good replacement LED bulbs expensive. Cheap ones should be avoided.
