At last: got my exhaust made!
I finaly had my single exhaust made yesterday. And I am very pleased with the results. I previously had the rotary performance 50mm cat-back, attatched to a racing beat header and presilencer, which worked very well with a nice tone. But in my quest for better performance; I decided to go single. So I asked you guys, and I was pointed to a Dynomax ultraflow stainless steel muffler with a 2.5 inch inlet and outlet. I then purchased a 10 foot piece of stainless steel pipe in 2.5 inch diameter (they would only sell 10 ft pieces). I had a buddy of mine weld it all up and we got it done in about 3 hours. Without a scale the weight savings are a guestimate but I'd say about 30-40 pounds . The new tone is actually a lil quiter below 3500 rpms; above 3500, it gets about the same untill about 5000 rpms; above 5000 it screams. So the tone is great, nice and deep. The good thing about it is I can cruise around town under 3k and it almost sounds stock . I deffinitely noticed an increase in power; I'm not sure if it was just a combination of the opened up exhaust and the weight savings, but it was a very noticeable gain. The reason it may be flowing so much better is that the RP system does not have staight through mufflers.
It ended up costing me:
- $100 - 10 foot piece of stainless 2.5 inch pipe. Could be cheaper if you can find a shorter piece.
- $75 - Dynomax stainless steel ultraflow muffler, with 2.5 inch inlet and outlet. Was $100, but I got a $25 rebate.
- $5 - For misc gaskets, hangers, flanges
- $20 - For my buddy to do the pipe bending and welding. It's nice to have friends.
And I'm selling my old system to a friend for $175!
So $200 - $175 = $25
I'm a happy guy today!!

Pictures would be nice.
Im replacing the dynomax on my bird with a spin tech no idea how it would sound on a rotary much less a V6 but on a V8 they sounds really good and I've seent eh flow number comparisons........ they are they best out there. I'll try to get them scanned so i can post the comparison.

CONGRATS SAMPS!! well i'm glad to hear that you got a better gain (as you felt on the butt dyno) on the single than a dual i had been thinking of going dual for the asthectic quality but have recently wanted to go single for the difference in price(since i don't have a friend to weld it up) i was thinking to go with the super turbo but it's baffled and the ultra flow is not but was worried about the tone of the ultra flow so it's good that it's not that loud around town so ya don't get the wrong attention.

I thought the RP Performance exhaust used straight through mufflers. On their website it says "Straight Through design for maximum power." Do they sell a different system now, or is this just tricking wording?

Probably just tricky wording. I got thier exhaust about 2 years ago though; so it may have changed. I will take some pics when I get a chance. It has a make-shift tip on it right now since my buddy did not have any good ones available at the time. It looks like you would expect it to. Just a 2.5 inch SS pipe running to one almost stock looking muffler. The tip is only 2.5 inches so it sorta just looks like a stock exhaust with one pipe missing. I really don't care what others think of what my pipes look like. The car is supposed to be the "star" not the pipes. For the money you can't go wrong. Even without some friends in the industry; I would bet you could duplicate my system for around $300. It all depends on how bad the shop wants to rip you off. My butt dyno is preaty realistic; and it knows that new mods sometimes make a false impression, so I will put her back on the butt dyno tonight and see what numbers it makes.

The guy used some machine that has a large piston on it with a half moon type thing that bends the pipe. It bends it real nice without pinching or kinking the pipe. I am not totaly sure what type of bending that is called. It looked to be a very expensive machine with alot of power. The bends came out looking just like the bends on my old system.

Well; it was day 2. I have noticed that the sound between about 4000 and 5500 is more along the lines of the normal Honda sound. Below 4k it is very steetable and easy on the ears, above 5500 it gets preaty loud, but a nice powerful loud. It is that lil section of 1500 rpms that I get the damn fart can sound. To me it is worth it, to have the added flow which is deffinitely noticable. The butt dyno says good things about this system. I will gets some pics up some time next week; but there isn't much to look at. Maybe I'll just take a whole new slew of pics of my car in the nice sunshine. There are a few new goodies since my last pic show!
