Largest safe tire size with 17x8.5 40 mm offset

Hey guys,

I'm buying an FC with a v8 conversion (yea i know i'm an a-hole..) I'm wondering the largest safe size for this car tire wise in the rear...

The rims I'm getting with it are rays /volk Gram lights, 17x7.5 30mm offset for front, and 17x8.5 in the rear 40mm offset...

I was checking out some tires online... I see 275's need wheel lip rolling, so 265 45 17s probably also won't fit right? I don't feel like cutting the body up, but it would be nice if I could run max width without slicing sidewalls on inner fenders...

So, 255 50 17? 255 40? or will the 265s fit?

I wonder if 300 treadwear is too hard for this combo.. :o

I really appreciate the help, thanks.

You'll find the answer to that question, and most any other RX7 question here. Will also explain the silence to your question thus far:

i mean like, i get it, it's funny, but like, why?

i've already looked at the retred or whatever's tire size database, it just listed a bunch of tire sizes, i heard 255's were safe nobody ever talks about a 265, they say the 275 is the one you want the rolled lips for..

i fart in your general direction sir

thanks anyhow

I have 245/40 17s in the back, with no problem. I think 265s would be too much though. However I have no proof of this.

the official fc wheel fitment thread is good.

currently im running 17x9's 35mm with a 255 and I know i have room for a 265. IN the rear.

Your best bet is to test it out yourself. Find some used tires in the sizes you want to try and put them on the rim and see how the fit on the car.
