LArge Coolant leaK!!! I have a question.

Hey guys I've had a coolant leak for about a week now and it's been progressively getting worse. The other day I was trying to figure out where it was coming from and i heard gurgling and I saw mist spraying coming from about the top of the engine or inbetween the engine and intake manifold.

My question is... Do you think this is a coolant leak of the engine block or could this be coming from the intake manifold? Is there coolant lines that run through the manifold?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

most likely the water hose connecting the block to the TB.

no, you have to take the TB/UIM off and fix it from up top

There's a coolant line that runs from the top of the engine block to the throttle body, one that loops across the throttle body, and one that runs from the throttle body to the back of the water pump. The one going from the engine block to the throttle body is the one that usually goes - pull the intake manifold off and replace the line.

On a non-turbo, no. On a turbo, there's a set of coolant passages into the lower intake manifold. The passage between the housings & LIM is sealed by o-rings, which do tend to get old and stop sealing.

It's easy if you do it the right way. Pull the rubber elbow off the TB, replace the squeeze clamps with screw clamps and us a little spray lube on the thermowax connection.

On my S4 NA, there's no way to get the hose without taking the intake manifold off.

Perks of emissions removal: I can pull the UIM off in 10 minutes while holding a conversation with someone.
