labor for clutch cylinders

I had my master and slave cylinders replaced with brand-spanking new Mazda OEM ones, and with labor, it came out to $275. It's on an '88 TII. Am I getting ripped a new one or is that fair? Sounds high, but I'm not sure how much work it takes to get to those bad boys.

For the amount of work involved, I would have done it myself. Takes all of about 45 mins. And that includes cigarette/beer breaks.

Dude... ripped off.

I just bough Brand new clutch master, slave, and SS line for under $100 total. It takes maybe an hour if you are slow to swap them...

Darnit. When I go pick up the car, I'll look at the invoice and see if anything else was changed, and how much of it was labor.

Thanks, guys.

Well, keep in mind that most places charge $60-80 just for LOOKING at your car, and then an additional $60-80 per hour to actually work on it.

Thats why I do it myself.

its pretty easy to do it yourself..but they will charge you probly for a complete fuid change( they will charge you for redline type fluids and give you walmart quality fluids)..but hey look at the bright side...at least you didnt have to do it yourself...you paid for a couple hours of labor....and an amatuer could do it in about an hour or mybe a little more

i think the big ticket items were the actual mazda oem parts...the markup is terrible..the labor was probly correct.....but once you realize how easy it is youlll punch yourself for letting them do it

i just replaced these parts and it was about 60 bucks for the master and 40 bucks for the slave
(non oem parts..napa) i asked others from other states and they had lower parts prices...im in florida

they get you on the mazda oem parts and the overpriced charges on their fluids!! they probly charged you for twice as much fluid as you really need..and probly charged you twice as much as if you would have bought it by the bottle...which sucks..cuz they probly have a 55 gallon barrell of the low quality crap that they buy 55 gallons for about the same price that they charged you for a few quarts...knowledge pays you know..

Napa Auto Parts for the brand new (not rebuilt) Clutch Master and slave ($44 and $21 respectivly). Mazdatrix for the SS line ($18 + $5 shipping) and $10 for a couple pints of Castrol GT LMA brake fluid = a grand total of $98.

The only thing is that the master and slave boxes have the orginal Japanese company name that Mazda buys from instead of Mazda stamped on the side.

Napa typically has the best prices on stuff like that in my area. I got a re-manufactured NipponDenso Alternator for my SC400 a couple months back that was only $180 at Napa, rather than the $420 that Lexus/Toyota wanted, for the same exact re-manufactured Alt.
