Kill Switch

So my car got broken into a few months ago, and then last week my dads truck got stolen...with the crime against cars going up in this once nice neighborhood, I think its high time I install some kind of anti-theft device.

I'd like an alarm, but thats out of my price range, so I'm opting for a simple kill switch since it worked great on my AE86. I'm not exactly sure what to "kill" though. My first idea was the starter, but that still allows for pop starting, the fuel pump would be good, but the connector makes it impossible to make a harness so I don't have to cut into the stock harness. My last idea that was I working on was the igniters, but I'm getting a cross connection trying to hook up the 4 leads from both igniters since they are different electrical outputs.

Does anyone have any good ideas for a kill switch that would also prevent pop starting? (Not cutting into the stock harness is also highly preferred, i rather just make an adapter harness)

Why don't you just use the stock anti-theft system? It has a built-in kill switch.

just do a fuel pump cut switch. then you are only cutting one single wire, not really a big deal. it's something that can latter be undone with some solder and heatshrink

Make sure it is well hidden. Wire it close to the fuel pump, and use a relay.

If you wire it up near the actual fuel pump relay under the dash, it will be found very quickly and circumvented.

My suggestion would be to hide it in one of the storage bins, or the glove box and lock the glove box with your key.

I don't really want to rely on 20 year old technology to keep some hoodrat out of my car lol. Granted my stock anti-theft still works, I just rather know for sure that any and all attempts to start my car will be null and void.

No offense or anything, but thats a really bootleg way of doing it. I just hate buying cars and then when I go rummaging though electrical systems finding that some jackass spliced the stock harness to save time/money/effort to do something that easily could have been done properly.

Even when I installed my Pioneer AVIC-D3 I made a harness for it and rewired every speaker so I could do it the right way and not cut into any stock harness. My FC isn't a beater, its pristine, so I don't want to deface that now.

As far as the switch goes, I have the perfect place for it. I got a semi-flush on-off button and I plan on mounting it in the storage bin fiberglass, then re-covering it with the carpet, so a simple tap on the carpet in the right spot will kill or enable whatever it is I finally decide to attach it to.

Oh, and to AGreen...A H&K P30 in .40 S&W would make a great kill switch, but I'd have to see the R-tard trying to steal my car, in which case I rather just use my Yugoslavian SKS at that point lol

Good idea.

That's similar to how you get a police cruiser out of park. No I can't tell you how to do it. :p

That wouldn't fly even in a castle-doctrine state, let alone the PRK. BTW, hope that thing was registered before they made them illegal. [Damn Cali]

You can do it in the great State of Texas. You can't shoot them, unless they attack you, but you can hold them up until police arrive.

I have actually done this. Long story.

Funny thing is, it was with my Yugoslav SKS!

Sooo, how exactly are you going to install a kill switch without splicing into the stock harness?

I read that in most cases the victim of a robbery knew the suspect. so you should put the switch somewhere that only you know where it is and when you have a passenger he/she will not see you flip the kill switch. the glove box is a good idea but it will be right in front of the passenger. the storage bin will be hard to reach from the driver seat. a good place may be inside the arm rest. to the passenger it will look like you are putting something away and his/her view will be blocked by the arm rest door. and to the average car thieve when your old car don't start he will just assume it don't run.

I wouldn't want to know how to get a cop car out of park, it wouldn't do much good anyway, those things have like 98435 GPS's on them, you'd get rolled real fast swooping a cruiser. Though the knowledge alone would be kinda nice.

Haha you got an SKS too? they are nice weapons.

SKS's aren't illegal in CA, they are classified as long rifles, not assault rifles. So as long as I take off the TAPCO stock put my wood stock back on, remove the muzzle break, and replace my detachable mag with a internal/attached mag I wouldn't have any problems getting it DROSed and registered.

I would kind of tend to agree that usually its someone you know, but with as popular as our cars are in the drifting community (along with rolla's and the S13/s14), theres no telling who would happen across your car and decide they could make a pretty penny off of it. Further more, why would you invite someone that you can't trust into you car anyway? Hell, even the guys that work at the junk yards around here know our cars and take parts off them before they hit the yard so they can sell the parts on ebay. I have a personal jacked up story about that...but another time, another place. I think where I plan to put the switch is perfect, so I'm just gunna run with that idea.

I'll show you what my plan is, or at least an idea that can be put to use in another sense. I took these off a dead set of igniter's I had laying around and just made a harness out of them, I'm sure by the picture you can tell how this idea works...

I am an Autotech, and do automotive electrical for a living.

I have to know how to get a police cruiser moving or...well I couldn't work on it.

I have also installed thier GPS/GSM locators too.

Yeah, I like my Yugo SKS. I got it in mint condition still in its commie box mummified in cosmoline. Never shot it.

I see your plan, but I don't see how it doesn't involve modifying the stock harness.

I can see him either using those to splice the kill switch into then plugging those into the factory wiring...

or...

He plans to run on end back to the switch and back up to the igniter. I think plan 2, if that's what he is doing is a bad idea.

i am too, do you feel as if your job is on the line if you were to tell them that theres an air diaphram that clicks a relay when you press on the air "pump" i'm not sure about the location of all of them, but most of them are were the clutch would be. that was the case on two 02 victorias we had come thru the shop.

No, I just don't give out the information.

The cruisers I have worked on are different than you describe.

are you wanting a system to eliminate the possibility of the car getting stolen or just broken into? or both? what i would do if i were you is go to the junkyard and get a horn from an old Cadillac and wire it up to a vibration deterrent system as the alarm.

now, for the anti-stolen car, there is a wire with a black connector right underneath the engine bay fuse panel. wire up a two-way toggle switch through that wire. make sure you use a nice sized wire though or else the circuit wont have enough continuity to complete the circuit. this wire controls the ignition system and the car cant even try to start without it.

there you go, homemade theft system that works like a charm!!

It's actually a very simple, correctable, and effective way of doing it.

Nobody will ever think to look for it, and you can locate it virtually anywhere.

I had both a fuel cut and ignition cut switches, but that was only partially for anti theft, and partially for shooting large flames
