Kei Office Coilovers

Any drifters here try the kei office drift coilovers for the second gen? Are they worth the money? Would it be better (Money vs. Quality) to go with an easier to find brand like Tein? All responces welcome. Thanks

I just said an easier brand to get a hold of, like Tein for example... i never said anything about purchasing a set of Teins. Secondly, what kind of coilovers are you guys running. I just wanna upgrade my suspension because I will have the money soon I think that my skill is getting there...

I will be turboing my car soon, before this year is over, and I want to upgrade the suspension as well... Keep in mind that I am not intending on doing any kind of drag racing in this car (well maybe a little just for fun, but nothun serious). My focus is on drifting and autocross. So, with that said, what would be a reasonable setup?

kei office coilovers are great for drifting but i don't recommend them for the street. my friend put some on his fc and he loved them but hated the ride to work every morning.

teins are not "ricey junk." teins in the us suck because most people here just want to go fast in a straight line and don't want to shell out good money for a decent suspension setup. crappy teins like the ss were made for just this reason. i'm curious to know how teins are more show than function.

I dont know for sure... I know people who have have positive turnouts with teins, and some who have had negative. I am also sure that it is meant per application, although people dont realize that... They just think "I wanna lower lower my car, how bout some coilovers..."

If you really want to handle well your daily driving ride quality will suffer. I have kyb agx struts and its a pretty damn rough ride even on the softest setting....still saving up for some coilovers though ;p I say go with the kei office....ride quality is not something that bothers me though...I'm used to having a overly stiff suspension.

I have this coilover on my prevous TII , it is great and makes the car handle really well,
but the ride is super stiff . I think the front and rear spring rate is different , because
the rear is stiffer than the front.

Currently I have TEIN HR Coilovers on my FC. I love them. The ride is really stiff though, but great on the AutoX track. I have a set of KEI OFFICE Type XT Coilovers coming in soon. I'm hoping that I'll get my money's worth.

If i remember right the same place make both the TEIn and the KEI OFFICe coilover sets the just make then to different specs. They are High quality Coilover and you will shell out the appropriate money for them ( meanning an assload). and Off course your r ide quality will suffer there made to be stiff for the track not for you Daily Driveing. if your putting them in your daily get used to the bumps.

I'm betting the negative feeling toward TEIN has more to do with popularity than quality. When they first brought their stuff to the US market, everyone jumped on the bandwagon, TEIN was the new "it" brand. So just like everything else, it gets played out, and people start hating on them. Up until now, I had always heard good things about them.

there's no reason to hate on Tein. they have probably the best customer service in the US out of any other coilover manufacturer... as far as getting them rebuilt/replaced anyway. and the prices are pretty good too.

Co Drove a WRX 3 years ago at Nationals with a Tein suspension in STX and it was a very good setup. Ran a Tein suspension on an STI this last year at Nationals. My co driver finished 3rd I finished 12th. Our good friend won STU with a Tein suspension. I cannot comment on their setups for RX-7's but from my expierence they are a good company.

I have yet to see ANY first hand negative feedback for the TEIN's for any car. Just "I have this friend" or others who are brand name junkies and only suggest the most expensive set up's that SHOULD be left for those that are 100% track driven.

If you EVER EVER EVER drive your car on the street DO NOT get Kei Office coilovers.

They are about as close to solid suspension as you can get. A rock hard ride all the time, even on the lowest setting.

Well, I suppose if you're a masochist then you could get them, but otherwise, I'd steer clear and get something like like Teins or Apexis.

If you daily drive a lot, go with a good set of shocks with some ground control sleeves, cos yes, coilovers are mostly for track usage. I have FLT-A2, and they are crazy stiff also, but I do believe they are actually softer than the kei office, depending on which model I guess. If you want a more streetable coilover, Tein Flex is a good alternative. Who says Tein is rice? They happen to be the no 1 selling brand in Japan the last time I checked. Tein have a large product line, and it ranges from entry level stuff to really pro-stuff, so no, it is definitely not rice.

the kei office setup is absolutely great for drifting (it is Keiichi Tsuchiya's company after all...), but as someone else mentioned, they are pretty rough for everday use.

spring rate and brands

Thank you all for your posts. I don't come across too many internet fourm threads that are this kind of quality thru-out. I searched and found this thread cause I was thinkin suspension also. After reading a while you guys helped me realized the more important question for me is Spring rate/weight and damping rate. If any perticular manufacturer can correctly answer those questions then that's the manufacturer I should go with. each fc is different older, newer, a lot of body flex, a little body flex, roll cage, no roll cage. point is each car is different. My fc is a more well used 1986 which for me is great. I like some flex and a soft suspension. I think the go kart cars are dangerous. So I'm gonna start researching re-buildibilty, swapable valve options, damping rates, and spring rates and types. once again thank you. sometimes I just need my memory jogged a little.

Nice thread resurrection...

Bottom line, if you're in the USA don't get the Kei Office used cause you got ZERO support.
If something goes wrong or you need to get them rebuilt, you're SOL.
Tein has at least their Tein USA offices, but you need to buy your Teins from an authorized USA dealer.
Tein USA does not touch anything bought originally from Japan.

This really should not be worth starting a thread for.
If anything, this should be a discussion on whether to buy J-spec dampers for use in the USA...which should be, NO.

I just read somewhere that Kei Office just closed up shop, so there is NO support for any of their products now.
