Just picked up T2, funky setup
Hi everybody, I just picked up this 87 T2 a couple weeks ago for $800. I plan on doing a lot of work on her, but I want to get it running right first. It was such a bucket, but so far I've cleaned it up pretty decently. The odometer reads almost 142k, funny thing is, there is a sticker on the windshield that says the last oil change was 05-00 at 140000 miles. This concerns me. Next, the key that was in the ignition has a hard time going in, but works....this key doesn't work with any other lock on the car. I went to the dealer ship and had them make me a key. $5 and a couple miles later. The new key doesn't work on the car. Oh well.
I change all the fuses and put the key into on to see what's broken electicaly. Theres a whine/grind sound under the hood. I put my hand near the radiator and I feel a small breeze. So I pull back the cover infront of the radiator and I see an e-fan. I didn't know these came stock?? I pull the fan fuse and this stops that problem.
The man I bought it from said it had a bad oil leak. From what it looks like, the last person driving it, hit a curb or a rock, because the ground effect it cracked and the oil cooler is busted. No prob.
The problem I don't know how to fix is some of the weird wiring. There is a black wire comming off the radiator cap. I can't find where the o2 sensor plugs back into. and there is a white wire connected to a black wire next to the intercooler.
Then there is a couple hoses replaced for the IC, I don't know how well these are going to hold.
Hah, but it will be such a fun project. Here are some pictures.

Thanks for the compliments! Yeah, It was a deal too good to pass up, esecially when I can't ever find T2s around here for a decent price. I think the paint and stickers are definately aftermarket.

The wire coming off the radiator cap.......the pictue is blurred, so this is an educated guess.....I bet its an additional ground wire for the boost sensor on the right side of the engine bay. There is a plug on the bottom of the boost sensor and this electrical plug has a brown/black wire that is a ground wire. I bet the wire on the radiator cap is tied to that brown/black wire.

Wow, there's a turbo II in San Franciso, with that same paint scheme, I talked to the owner for a sec, he was the original owner and bought it that way. He said, his was one of the first Tii's to hit the US. I think he said build date was 6/86... sold as an 87 model. What's your build date? Could be one of the first? Hmmm, just a thought! Good luck, looks awesome.

On the other end of the argument. My TII has a 6/86 build date and it looks like all the rest. Humm?

I once saw a TII with the same decals on the side. It was probably a dealer-installed option. I kinda like the way it looks, though it is rather outdated.

That yellow little harness on the left side of the bay when facing the car is probably supposed to be loose -- I think it's the one you run a wire across to prime the fuel system.
