Question Just installed new motor

I have spent the last 3 weeks with my '91 Turbo..real quality time taking out my blown apex seal motor, and installing a rebuild. Tonight is the big night since I am going to try to start it. Any last minute advice???

Did you replace all your vacuum and fuel lines/hose clamps?

Crank it over with the EGI fuse out first so it has oil pressure.

Yes, I replaced the vacuum hoses and clamps when needed. What exactly does pulling the EGI fuse out first do? If you can't tell, most of my training has been on the job training. Thanks for the advice...I need it.

Keeps it from firing, allowing the oil pump to build oil pressure. Don't want it hitting the 3000 RPM cold start on dry bearings

Not to throw a monkey wrench in your thoughts but for some reason Atkins told me not to do that. I have no idea what the logic is.

I would like to hear some thoughts on why they might not want your to crank with out spark. Any thoughts?

Hmmm, was that the warning in the packet that says that cranking the engine..I can't remember the wording...can be detrimental to the bearings?

The first one did not make it because of oil contanimation. Not sure what happened there. I was carful as I knew how to be.

The engine I recieved under warrenty came with those dirictions. Not to crank the engine with the ignition disconnected.

It just said not to. It did not give the logic behind it.

On both engines I did not crank before the actual starting.

This is why my oil cooler is on its way to a certified FAA repair facility to have my oil cooler professional flushed, serviced and tested.

Turning it over a few times with the EGI fuse out acts as a primer for your engine. It builds your oil pressure, and lets it coat everything. I turned mine over a few times with the fuse out before cranking. Good Luck!
