Just installed HKS intake
I mean how clean is it? I am not a fan of heat soak...the bottom of my current filter gets too hot to touch. I was working on a CAI setup, but I got lazy/broke. I couldn't even afford the Dremel bit to cut the hole in the car....maybe next week.
Well it started as one of those let see how it goes, and if it work we'll put some real $$$ on it. We used 2.25 radiator hoses, I said it was cheap. We where scare to use those Home Depot rubber 90 deg elbows, we weren't sure if they would resist the heat. The other path was the silicone elbows, but those were to expensive to justify the probable 0 HP gain.
The installation itself is very clean, however the tools and materials are very raw (in lack of a better word), no cutting frame, metal, etc.
This is Mazdaspeed7 pic, and I am not sure if he did it the same way I did, but there is a space wight where the orange tube is going thru:
Look in your car, and you'll see a wire harness going thru that place (the one in the pic), the hole is barely 2.25 wide (between the frame and the radiator). I guess if you use some spacer on the radiator right side mount, it may be possibe to squeeze a larger tube (remember the inlet of the AFM is 2.5).
I haven't had any problems on snow and rainy days; except for one time that I was caught in a flood.

I was thinking of using the space where the washer fluid resevoir used to be to fabricate a CAI, like someone else on here did.
Next time you're working on your car, take the filter off and run your finger around the inside of the hose it's attached to...see if it's dirty...I know my AFM was.

for me.
A foam filter is not the best filtering element. Everyone knows that. Cotton is the best. If you are paranoid about engine longevity over maximum flow/hp then get a cotton filter.

I took it out of my Probe when I swapped the motor. Only reason I plan on keeping it in my Seven is becaue it works and this car gets hot as heck! (dang rotarys)AC= extra pointless weight. Then again I live in nice mild Oregon.
