We got ours free, but it was faded pretty bad, the radio bezel is broken and the seats are ripped. Those leather seats look 1000 times better. Our top is ripped too. The interior was green (mildew) and the engine was colored grease. We finally got the paint buffed out pretty good, the engine compartment is cleaned up a little. Seat covers on the seats until new covers are ordered, and the top is not been touched yet. Exhaust leaks like crazy and one muffler completely rusted off.
I drive it to work everyday.

Your car has alot of potential. it is not as bad as you make it out to be. I have seen alot of people sink big buck into cars that Should have been crushed long ago.

A little elbo grease....

Later,
Bill

That's because some people have no manners.

do you happen to have any engine shots?
Not yet, haven't popped the hood. Busy trying to fix the driver's window right now.

have you driven the car at all?
Yep, had it up to 80. Other than stinking like mad, and the exhaust leak being loud, it drives pretty nice.

the passenger seat doesnt look that bad. why are you scrapping it?
Because if I'm gonna replace one, I'm gonna replace both. Either aftermarket or Miata seats, most likely.

what does the wife think?
She loves it, and is looking forward to having it fixed up and nice.

More pics:

I don't know what this black stuff is, I'm assuming it will wash off, though.

Front pass fender dent:

At least I cleaned the wheels.

LOL, I love the brick, thats classic.
And yes, that black stuff should come off. Its basically road grime, my car had similar and it came out with some soap and a good bit of elbow grease.

Here's the aftermath on the seats:

Luckily, I just got replacement black carpet from a forum member, so that's handled.

It's missing all of them. All I did was open the trunk. The trunk struts won't hold it open, either.

"The trunk struts won't hold it open, either."

With an adapter, you can replace the trunk struts with aftermarket. Probably just need to replace one strut as the aftermarkets are pretty strong. Adapter is about $20 and the strut (depending on where you get is) runs between $27-$35.

hey check if u have tail lights, if those dont work then its usually either a fuse (located drivers side to the left of the clutch petal) or a switch. if ur tail lights do work then its a dash bulb or wiring.

You're gonna need to strip the paint and hit it with POR15. Bullet proof.
What about the engine? That is the most important part. (Those poor saps who swap in a V8 and think it is still a 7, sigh)

Every 7 that can be saved, must be saved. If the frame is totally FUBAR, transplant. Thus spoke god...lol. But thank you for keeping another one on the road.

Why not just call the car a Rotary or a Wankel?? Why do people insist on arguing over this? Oh, I see, the cars style, weight, and handling have nothing to do with it being a great car. Every time I come on to this board I can see at the very top that it says in plain English: "RX-7 Owners Club" not "Rotary Owners Club" or even "Rotary RX-7 Owners Club."

So, it is not a 7 without the Rotary, is it? Just what exactly is it then?? Get over it dude. Some people like Rotary's, some people like pistons. Who cares? If you are not paying the money for it then you really have no say in the matter. You just like stirring the pot!

I like the 13B in the vert. It has been pretty dependable. The 12A in the FB has been nothing but problems. Now it doesn't run because of 2 little pieces of plastic that cost over $200 each. A v8 is in its way into the FB, and if the 13B ever dies, it may or may not be replaced with a v8, Depending on the cost of each.

I have no problems with people who like original engines in thier cars. I also have no problem with swapping them out for something else, ie, v8, v6, i4, i6, 20B, etc.

I think you should have posted: " It would be great if the engine is running good so you have an all original car, if that is what you want."

[Rant Off]

Sorry to hijack you thread, I just irks me everytime I hear this garbage^^^. I say great car, and I hope that it turns out just how you and your gf like.

Later,
Bill

Didn't mean to **** anyone off. Its just that the rotary engine is a big part of what makes the RX unique compared to all the other cars you see on the road. You change it to a piston engine, you lose that (plus heavy V8s will tend to mess with the weigh distribution). No offense, no insults intended. I just want to see more rotary powered cars on the road is all.

Your GF is lucky-that's gonna be a great car.

You are correct, Rotary's are unique and different. That is why I like them. I respect your viewpoint from that perspective. For me it is the whole package. If the whole package doesn't work well (for me) then I change the part that doesn't work the way I want it. This is why even with rotary engines, people are always modding them in one way or another, like porting, turbo's, exhaust, etc. I just take that one step further to the whole package. I am modding the package.

V8s do mess with the weight distribution. Most LS1 FD cars are lighter in the front than in the rear. Go figure.

I just saw Directfreaks 685 RWHP vid and that car is awesome. I like anything that people fix up.

Alright, Back to topic. If you need some pics of the trunk space, let me know, Mine isn't in perfect shape, but I think everything is there.

Later,
Bill

Rotary Experiment 7 is a myth. RX-7 is just a catchy name, like the CX-7, 240sx, 300sx, etc.

And sorry to say, but the weight distrubution does not get messed up when swapping in a V8 into an FD. You actually LOSE weight, because you have to figure in the turbo system on the FD's. There's ALOT of craph in there.
