Exclamation Just Got My RX-7, Need some help...

Hi,
I recently bought a 1988 Non-Turbo RX-7 with about 102k miles on it. This is my first rotary engine car, and I'm somewhat lost at what I see, and where to find things, and what I can change to improve the performance.

I've searched online and see engines that look quite different from mine(well mainly the air filter), I was wondering if you could tell me what's their engine's got that I don't?

Mine:

Others

I was wondering is there some conversion that I don't know about. And could you tell me somethings I can do to improve the performance. I havn't found that much aftermarket performance parts for the RX-7... :-/

Also the car smokes, sometimes at startup, blueish grayish smoke. I'm guessing it's leaking radiator fluid into the exhaust system. I've heard Coolant seals could be causing this, but...where are located in the engine, and can it be repaired?

Thank you

www.racingbeat.com is your friend www.mazdatrix.com for OEM parts. www.piercemanifolds.com and www.sdjmotorsports.com too! www.mariahmotorsports.com for body kits. and yeah the 13b fuel injection is what your car came with, somebody took it off and looks like they put a holley 600 on it, i bet its faster than that crappy fuel injection any way

As stated befor your car was converted to carburated from FI. As well you have a MSD ignition. So most of the basic mods do not apply to you. This is not necisaraly a bad thing. A little smoke on star up is normal for a engin that has some time on it. Blueish smoke is a sign of oil not coolant. The side seals are just warn out from use and high milage. If it dosnet continusly smoke or smoke a tun your ok its just ware. If it smokes alot a side seal is blown and will require a rebuild.

I think the big Q is do you have a state inspection in Florida. What are the chances of passing with a carbed car instead of the proper FI?

Where are the side seals located at?

There are no inspections in FL. The side seals are the apex seals on the side of the rotor. You have to tare the motor down and rebuild it to replace them.
