nice car. take care of it. don't hurt it. don't race it, yet. don't break it. don't rice it . leave it stock until you understand what you are doing. keep the body oem on the outside for the most part. wash regularly and garage/cover it. do all the regularly scheduled maintenance at the scheduled times.
...and hopefully she will love you for a long time.

Our Checzh buddy hIGGI, had been bleeding the brakes on his beater N/A, but it wasnt proberly done.
So when he decided to hit the brakes really hard and pull back in behind the bus he was overtaking, the car went sideways and yes got tboned by a truck.
Luckily hIGGI survived the crash and had to spend his birthday at the hospital

Congrats man. I'm 17 and have had my TII for a year now (paid for it myself). They are fun cars, just make sure you keep up with the maintainance. I have learned so much since I got it. I didn't even know how to change the oil when I first got it, compared to now... just finished my streetported rebuild today that I did myself.

another thing i was thinking about doing the street porting myself is it really worth it? im not running headers but my cat did get swapped out for a nice pipe from home depot and it does give my car a much deeper throaty sound but would that effect a street port job at all?

That is an awesome first car, you're very lucky. Looks exactly like my new 91 TII, now I really can't wait till it gets here! Only a few more days left. Congrats on the car...

Nice grab, and people are right, new drivers make rooky mistakes (I hit a car that ran a red light with my first car) It was her fault, but I think with more exp and if I was driving slower I should have been able to avoid the accident.
--insurance paid for repairs, I later baught my TII and donated the repaird 91 Accord to my sister for her 16th birthday

You have no idea how lucky you are! A series 5 Turbo II is becoming a very rare find. You sound like a very responsible individual. (IE: Didn't get all pissy when people flamed you about your age... You're cool in my book!)
My advice: Read the forum, enjoy working on the car with your dad, and come to the next Tri-State RX-7 get together to meet some fellow rotorheads in your area!

MENDOZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations, that is a sweet ride, I would have loved that car at your age, just be careful with it. oh and I don’t see anything wrong with a dad helping his kid out, I mean I would help my child buy a car , I would rather give him money to help buy a quality car than have him buy a crappy car on his own. From then on he/she should be responsible for insurance/repairs etc. that is the way I did it.

Yea I understand what everyone says about no matter what you do or how responsible you are, when you first get your liscence, your just not that experienced. Even if you follow every law, you forget to check your blind spots, or make some mistake like that, and bam, accident. Since I got my permit like a year ago, when i've gone somewhere with my dad, I think he's driven only once or twice. I take every chance I can get to practice with his car. Whenever we go out, I usually drive, and i've been doing that for about a year, so driving manual is becoming like an automatic reaction and I dont think about it that much anymore. Most people around here just use their permit to practice parallel parking a month before their test, and only drive every once and a while, like my sister. She's my twin, so were both going on the same day for our liscences, but she's driven on the road like 1/16th of the time i've been driving, so even if she gets her liscence, she has hardly any road experience on her hands.

just don't paint the interior White or Red or Blue and make it look ricey. the more mods you do to it the more it brings down the value of your car. keep it 100% stock

Congrats on the new car! I got my first 7 when I was 17, paid for it, myself (and it was my third car). It was an 88 GXL.
Had it for three years, loved it. Now I'm 24 and about to get another GXL
