Question Just got an 88-SE....1st question

Hi guys,
I have had an 85 GSL-SE for a couple of years now and I just got an 88-SE, 90K, in super condition. What can I say, I have become a sucker for rotaries! Anyway, the only problem I can find thus far is that I hear clicking noises when i turn the steering wheel in either direction. It doesn't seem to be coming from the steering components but rather from the area near the front springs. Anyone here know what I am talking about? Cheap fix or should I start cutting back on groceries?

Darius

Check your springs, shocks, and steering arms. If the car is lowered (cut springs) it will make a clicking noise because of the spring spining from turning the wheel. If the car is not lowered then it may be the steering arms or the metal guard around the brake rotor. Just take a rim off and look... Im SURE its nothing of great interest...

I have "heard" this is common and is usually the upper strut mount. I know mine makes the sound as well

this is common. it is caused by a non-lubrication of the top of the strut tower where it connects into the chassis. it only happens when it is cold. if you wanna verify put the car in a heated garage and let it sit and warm up and take it for a ride right after.. it should go away..

it could also be your power steeringpump needing fluid or your steering rack being fubar.. but i would guess it is the lube.

i have heard that you can put a fine coat of grease on the tops and it will go away. but i never tried it because i know it is not a critical problem..

Thanks for all the input guys. The clicks definately come from the area near the springs and not the power steering pump. Seems like it is the strut mounts.
