Just bought my first RX-7

Alright, so here's the deal. I've got a 87 GXL, Red Champagne color with dark grey leather interior. 79k original miles, stored it's whole life and it's been undercoated and rock guarded. It's very very clean, with only one very small spot of rust on the very bottom of the rear quarter panel. Interior is near mint, and the engine bay is completely clean. So here's a list of things that need fixing on the car:

Passenger's side power mirror seems to be off the track or broken

The surround piece for the warning lights is cracked

Needs a new Mazda front bumper badge

Needs a nice wash and wax job to make it shine

Trim around the windows could be replaced if I wanted, but for now it's perfectly fine, does not leak at all

Needs to be re-tinted because the old tint is peeling off

Clock turns on and off (short?)

Interior needs a nice clean

Logicon needs some resoldering (defrost does not re-route the air)

Needs new shifter bushings

Passenger leather seat is perfect, driver's seat could be replaced if wanted

Speakers in the door panels need to be redone (possibly new door panels)

Sunroof closes slow and sometimes needs help

Alright, so that's everything that's possibly wrong with it. What's it gonna take to fix the window, the clock, the logicon, shifter bushings, and sunroof? Thanks for your help guys!

the sunroof is on a set of tracks with cables and such. drop your headliner and then drop the whole assembly out, it just needs to be cleaned.

The badge on the front bumper that says Mazda. It's right on the top near the right headlight. It's basically all just TLC and it's ready to go. Just spent 3 hours cleaning it tonight, and it's all ready to go, just needs a good wax. Alright, I'll check Mazdatrix for all my parts then. Thanks!

What's it gonna take to fix the windows, the clock, the logicon, shifter bushings, mirror, and sunroof? What grease should I use for the tracks on the sunroof and windows? Do I just order my bushings from Mazda Trix?

What part on the windows is bad? is it the outer seal at the base of the window? i am in the process of repainting and restoring mine right now. if that is the bad part either order new ones (they arent cheap) or carefelly clean them, remove the old rubber coating from the face, remove all rust with some sand paper, fiberglass resin a small layer, sand smooth and flat agian, prime, paint black and just like new!! the clock and dummy lights will need to be resoldered and so will the logicon and probably the cpu in the drivers side kick panel that runs the dummy lights, horn, clock and warning beeper. shifter bushings will need to be replaced with all new ones from a suitable place, mirror may need total replace and sunroof, pull the headliner, degrease and clean with some all purpose cleaner, get some grease in a can and relube all the friction surfaces for the cables and track. if you need the items resoldered pm me ill do it for cheap and test.

The thing is, the CPU has been resoldered I guess already. The horn and everything works, it's just the clock and logicon that don't. I found out that the part that is messing with the windows is the rubber seal on the inside of the window. It gets caught on the window when it's going down and makes it skip. I'm guessing if I just use some wax or something on the seal, it will make it go up and down nicely. The sunroof definitely needs degreased and regreased. Those seals on the outside of the car on the bottom are nearly brand new, the only ones that are starting to fade are the ones on the sides and top of the window. I'll order the bushings soon here, and what do you charge to resolder the stuff?

Great find.

Icemark sell rebuilt Clock warning panels, Logicons, and Wiper Switch assemblies as well as some other things. I just purchased all of the above things from him and they work perfect.

www.mazdamark.com

Congrats on a really nice find. My 86 GXL has 157K on the odometer and had the **** beat out of it by the previous owner. I ve replaced many parts etc I only paid $400 for the car and including the purchase price I`ve got about $1500 in it so far. What the hell its a blast to drive.
You should change all the fluids, belts, hoses, air filter and spark plugs ASAP.
(NGK Platinum all the way) A new set of Plug wires won`t hurt either.

Alright, so today I decided to check out what the hell is up with the speakers and door panels today. The speakers in the door panels weren't the stock ones, and they seemed kinda suspicous, so I decided to check into it. They stuck out from the door panel, and didn't seem right. It doesn't seem like that's where the stock ones even went. The tweeters seemed set-up right, but the piece they were screwed into was cracked. Also, I found out that for some reason, my GXL has no power locks. Well, let me explain with some pictures.

This is what the door panel looked like after I got the speakers out.

This is the speakers that were in the door panels.

This is what I ripped out of the car. Sadly, it was poor put in. The box was TAPED inside the door panel, and here's what the inside looked like.

As you can see in this picture, they drilled a hole for the wire and found it wouldn't work there. The other pictures was where they cut the plastic for the tape and wires.

Now that's what I don't get. What is that plug for? It wasn't plugged into anything on the car. What does the stock speaker set-up look like? Thanks for your help guys. Please help me figure out what the hell went on here.

Alright, so I found out that the stock speakers do mount there, but they're not supposed to stick out like that. Looks like my options are new door panels or see what I can fix up with these things. I've actually got 3 plugs on here that don't plug into anything, and I can't figure out what they're for. Also, today I went to start the car up at school, and I accidently flooded the car, so I decided to pull the EGI fuse and crank it over a few times. I did that, and then put the fuse back in and started it up. The car fired up fine then, and I drove it home. Also, the hood on the car doesn't seem to open right. When I pull the latch thing for it, the hood doesn't pop up. Does this mean something just needs greased up? Also, I heard a kind of tick sound today when I was looking around the engine bay, what's it supposed to be?

Got it. Just went out and checked, and yes, those are a custom job. The wiring he connected it to was the stock wiring that was supposed to go to the speakers in the dash. The speakers in the dash were actually unhooked, and I also found out that they were Rockford speakers. So now that I know what the hell is going on here, I can start to figure things and and get this all back together. I think I'm gonna try to figure a way to connect both the dash speakers and the speakers in the door panels so that I can have some nice sound. What am I going to need to do this? Can I somehow just solder both the wires into the stock wiring? Or am I going to need some sort of crossover? I've talked to a couple people, and aparently, the best way to go is going to be to hook the dash speakers up to the stock wiring without a crossover to retain the highs, and to hook the speakers in the door up to a crossover to retain the mids, and to hook the tweeters up to the crossover too. My friend is getting me some nice Rockford speaker wire to hook all this up, so I'm gonna figure all this out tonight after work. If you guys got any suggestions, I'd definitely appreciate it. Thanks.

I checked out the power window, and it seems like the tracks just need greased that are inside the door. It isn't actually catching on anything it seems. Checking this out tonight too.
