Question Just bought 88' N/A RX-7

Hi, All! I have been reading these boards for about a week and joined yesterday.
I just bought a 88' N/A RX-7 for $900. The body is in pretty good shape. The engine sounds good. It does have a few problems. It needs new tires, brakes, and shocks. The driver door is a little hard to open, the ignition switch is bad but, it is rigged to a push button to start, the head light switch is bad but, it is rigged to a toggle switch, the AC works good, the windsheild wipers only works on low (bad switch), the interrer is in ok condition with only a few flaws, the automatic trans lever is sloppy and it rolls while in park. Is the as good of a deal as I orginially thought? I want give it some more power and trick it out but, I have never tricked out a car and not sure where to start. I am currently living on grants and my wife works so I can devote my attention to school. I wanted to put a turbo in, after reading the board some it looks like I will not be able to. Unless I get a new engine?? Right?? The acceleration it not what I expected from an RX-7. What can I do to improve that? Any help would be greatly aprreciated.

i'd say fix ALL of the little problem is has first, then start modding it.

for mods, a good intake is a good idea, and a full exhaust system including headers, midpipe, and catback. but before you do all that, an oil change would be great along with spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, check the power steering / brake / clutch fluids to make sure they're not gravied up.

Wrong
you can turbocharge your NA block. But fix everything first, and do a big tuneup. Anyways, here is how to turbocharge your NA (courtesy of AaronCake): http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/naturbo.htm

I say return that thing. Realize that it will take thousands of dollars just to get it right no less fast. You are still talking a 5 speed conversion, t2 swap or turbo'ng your NA. I would give it back and start with something worth "tricking out". And if you are on a budget a Rotary is nothing you want to play with.

Thanks for the advice. I am not sure if I will keep this one or not but, I will keep an eye out for a better one.
