jspec has water in it! Listen to this...

Bought a jspec (dirt cheap) and was checking compression before install, and the plugs where wet, tip the engine over and dumped out a puddle of water. Called the guy, he said it would run fine just as long as the water wasn't antifreeze. He will still refund my money, but thinks I should still use my engine...I NEED YOU GUYS TO REPLY...SO i CAN TELL THIS GUY THAT i AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS OPINION...But let me know, will it run?, he is still providing a warranty, and his idea is install it and if it runs, great; if not then wait for another engine! PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

Were the manifolds exposed?

Did the water come out of both housings or just one?

Did the water smell like antifreeze? Or was it JDM rain water?

Hmmm... Depending on how long it sat with rainwater in the housings... Could be good, could be bad.

*edit* No, thats not typical. Tell me who you got that motor from, so I dont make the mistake of buying one from him/her.

dude in Georgia, he said he'd take care of it either way. But should I give it a try, any way to tell what the engine will be like?

What I personally would do, is get the water out. And shoot some oil in the plug holes. Then rotate the motor with a breaker bar on the e-shaft bolt. Make sure that there is some compression, and that nothing is locked up

actually he just brought my money back, told me to keep the motor, try it, and see if I can make it run, so do you think I should drop it in? I just don't want to waste the labor. What do you think?

It might be fine, but I personally wouldnt want to run an engine that has been sitting for who knows how long, full of water. Especially if he will give you a refund or another engine. Just my opinion..

do it, once you've swapped it once the second time is much much easier.

some importers try to clean the motors and no matter what you do water will get in, that is why we don't wash our J spec motors any more, sounds like you got what you paid for

Hmm I bought a core and it didn't have water in it but there was a lot of rust in the front housing. So much that the rotor and side plates were ruined.

It might be an indicator sthat something is fucked up inside.

It might be JDM salt water or like SD said maybe just Domestic blinker fluid.

Anyways......
Since you have a Jspec AND your money back.
Send it off to Kevin(Rotary Resurrection) and get it rebuilt to make sure every thing is ok!

Is the water CLEAR or ORANGE?
This is an easy test that could determine if the water was there only for a short time or if it was sitting long enough to corrode the insides.

Here's a question though. I have a spare trans and starter so if I get compression, and decently so, should I try it. Whatcha think?

Have you put an engine in our cars yet? Not very fun if the thing turns out to be bad.

The engine should spin freely. If you need a big breaker bar to turn it over then it's bad.

My rebuilt one can be turned over almost by one hand on the flywheel.
My Jspec was so rusted inside that I had my full body weight on a pry bar and it finally let loose.

I still say Rebuild it. Kevin charges like $1200-1300 for rebuilds plus shipping. He is some what close to you as well so shipping will be cheap.
