It is sad to see this car get dismantled, but I understand the reasoning. He is a competitor and wants to win, and the RX-7 just isn't the platform to build off of. Hopefully, the car can be unloaded to where it may at least see the road again. If not, well, at least there's a wealth of parts!

It really was a two-faceted decision. On one hand, I think the car can win on the right course, but unfortunately those are few and far between. I've had national champions drive the car and they're no faster in the car than I am on a good day. I've gotten lucky with some favorable courses and conditions and been close or good enough to win.

On the other hand, a car became available that I had tried to buy before and failed. I am now part owner of that car and it didn't make financial sense to keep the RX-7. It makes me sad as well.

The shell is going to a good home who is going to use it for racing. The engine is going into another STS RX-7, and lots of the other parts went to good friends of mine. The car lives on.

Anyone who saw the car up close knew it was too far gone to be of real restoration value. The entire dashboard is falling to pieces and there isn't a single body panel on the car that isn't dented, dinged, re-painted (badly), crunched or generally not straight.
