Red face Jesus! is this thing supposed to smoke like that?

Well, I got it running (thanks in part to a can of ether I had laying around). Earlier this week, I followed some advice and poured about 2 or 4 ounces of oil in each rotor housing to build compression.

It starts with some ether help, and revs to 3k for about 30 seconds, falls to normal idle speed, but fark, it smoked so bad, i couldnt see and had to cut it off. I need some new exaust gaskets granted, but fooooook the neighbors came out to see if the car was on fire!

And while I'm on it, what does the releif silencer hose do? I think I had smoke coming out of there under the PS side headlamp

You have a water seal blown, my friend. I just pulled my engine due to the same thing on my vert. Does you car "eat/drink" water? Check your radiator.

lol ....... well you did poor oil into the chambers now didnt you :-P
it'll take several minuts to get all moisture/oil out of the poor girl.

tell the neibors to deal with it cuz you love your rotary..... and try having it go for about 5-10 min. watch oil pressure and all that stuff while at it...

i'm sure your fine....

if it doesnt stop in 5-15 min....... lol..... looks like your going to need a few seals :-P

As stated, I think you have a fried coolant seal. The blueish color is from th eoil you put in, white is coolant in the combustion chamber.

i bet its not a coolant seal at all... he said BLUISH grey. thats oil. so is just plain white smoke most of the time... even tho a blown coolant seal will emit white smoke also. if it has been sitting for a long time and its just now started it will smoke alot untill it burns it all off. same if it was flooded and you try the oil or automatic transmission fluid trick

I unflooded a car a little while ago and the thing smoked so bad..I thought for sure it was a Goner..The thing smoked for close to 15-20 minutes because of the fuel in the exhaust..after that was rid of she eventually cleared up and found I had a nice little engine.Oil was up a half a quart(mixed with gas),,had to change oil and filter...(the smoke on start up made the car disappear ..grey smoke, grey car!..she smokes on start -up but clears within two minutes now..(touch wood)

hahhah. no wonder...... push that thing out of the garage. let the girl run for a while. watch your oil pressure just incase.

just let it run!!!!
flooded/oil in chambers.

i started mine up for the first time in 9-10 months. when i bought it. it smoked for 30 min and stopped

from day to day depending on humidity . my car steams on start up. smells like pre-mix.
yummy smell.

Nothing like a fresh new exhaust causing smoke and confusing your parents!

If you think thats bad...you should try the seafoam treatment...or get a first generation with a blown coolant seal (yes, it would leave a CLOUD, I'm talking that you couldnt see through at all) on the first start after it sitting up all night...

Good car lasted me close to 8 months before I sold her!

haha. yup, without further inspection you sure do.

^ Why post this?

As stated, I think you have a fried coolant seal. The blueish color is from th eoil you put in, white is coolant in the combustion chamber.
White can also be oil. If there is ALOT of oil in the chambers the smoke will be white. If its a little oil the smoke will be blue.

Im sure its only because of the oil you put in the chambers. I have done this many times on my rotary and I would always love the smoke show. Most of the time. grey/white. When the oil started to burn off the smoke started to look blue.

I would say its not a coolant seal.

How long was the car sitting before you unflooded her?

flooded, like you found out. No reason for a coolent seal problem unless it was overheated before you let it sit.

How is it running now?

like crap...i cant get it restarted

i twisted the coolant cap to check it after cranking, and it spewed coolant everywhere, does that mean blown seal?

i got it started, ran real rough and the second i let off the acclerator, it dies, she'll restart if I do it within like, 30 seconds, but after that, it wont start again without some help.....it smokes a LOT less than yesterday, but its still being a pain in the ***

Assuming the engine wasn't already warmed up, then yes. Why don't you do a compression check just to be sure, though. If nothing else, it might make you feel better if you have to do a rebuild.

concidering you started it up and turned it off befor it was warm. you could also just be flooded...

hell i was at a car meet and started my car. moved it .and turned it off.
it wouldnt start when i went to leave. lucky i have a fuel cut off switch

dont be scared yet!!!

i'd still try on it.
btw, collant tents to spray out like a shaken soda if you open it after you had the car running. squeeze the hose a few times and open it slower.
