Issue with alternator

I recently had to put a new alternator into my car, and I know everything got connected to it properly. But when I went to start the car up, it wouldn't. I know when I was connecting the wire to the back of it (the one held on by a nut) I accidentally bumped my wrench on the engine and it sparked a little. I don't know if that would have broken the alternator, but when I disconnected all the wires from it the car would start right back up again. Does anybody know what could be causing this?

The engine fuse under the dash keeps blowing when the electrics turn on, but all the fuses under the hood look fine.

Check to make sure you are are not using an S4 alternator on a S5 or vice versa.. . I seem to recall they sink to ground differently. . . .A previous owner may have done the swap, reconfigured the wiring which is not unheard of, and you are unaware?

there are threads on this if you are unsure of which wiring you have currently setup.
