Introduction and a Question

Fellas-

Hi. I just received an '88 RX-7 GXL from my sister. I'm going to fix it up and give it to my cousin. It had some minor electrical problems which I sorted out, and now it runs like a champ. What a great little car! I'm used to working on bikes and on my jeep, excuse a few stupid questions. First, I want to change the oil and the tranny and final drive oils. I also want to look around underneath so I want to jack up the car and put it on jsckstands. I looked underneath. The suspension is totally new to me. Where do I put a floor jack and where do I put jackstands once I have it jacked up?

Also, do the tranny and final drive plugs take crush washers?

Thanks in advance,

Jim Moore

use valvoline 20w50 NON-synthetic, NON high mileage, regular old valvoline 20w50

use Mobil1 75w-90 gear oil in trans and diff

not sure on the crush washer, if memory serves, mine didnt have any

about the jack stands...i jack mine up on the pinch welds right under the doors and put the jack stands there, you can jack up the rear end by the differential

or...this is the letter Red Line Oil (the best gear oil u can buy) sent to me when i asked the same question:

Zach,

Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, in your RX-7 transmission I
would recommend the MT-90 in the transmission and the 75W90 in the
differential. The 75W90 contains a friction modifier so could be too
slippery for the synchros in the transmission, Mazda calls for either
a GL-4 or GL-5 75W90 in the transmission and a GL-5 in the
differential. The 75W90 can be used in a racing differential but a
dedicated track car would generally use one of our other gear oils.

Regards, Dave
