Intro and quick question
Intro and quick question
Hey all I would just like to introduce myself. I just bought an 87 gxl with 68kmi very clean no winters. I have been an active member of other car forums and will try to keep my stupid posts to a minimum.
That being said I may have a stupid question in the form of a a "6 port actuator" question. I did some searching and didn't find a definitive answer to my question. Here it is, the actuators mve fairly easy by hand. However the car feels kind of gutless at low end. WHen the car is idling or off the actuators seem to be in the "extended" position. A friend who had an FC a while back said that means the ports are open when they shouldnt be and that they should always return to the position with minimum shaft exposure. Is he right? Or are they operating normally? Thanks for looking and sorry for my noobness.

Welcome to the club.
You have a Series 4 (S4, 86-88 model year) car which means the aux ports actuators are normally extended (closed aux port) then pull in to open the ports. The ports are actually cylindrical sleeves inside the lower intake manifold that either rotate away or towards the combustion chamber to open or close. The first thing to do is test the actuators then work from there. Check out Aaron Cake's guide on it.

I might just feel gutless because you're not used to it. Also, start with a full tune up, filters, fluids, plugs, wires, and remove any dead animals you may have in your engine. (Helped me pass smog, but hurt performance.)
