interesting t2 transmission bottom (pics)

I got this transmission with a car I bought that had a 13b-re in it. The bottom "plate" seems to be different than all my other t2 transmissions. Does anybody have any info on this? Maybe it just means it has been rebuilt/worked on?

Thanks

I've seen some of those bottom plates in a salvage yard in Abilene TX. I've never actually seen them on a vehicle. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that, the T2 tranny was also used on a the Ford Rangers, and Mazda pickups.

Awesome, learn something new every day! I did NOT know that! Do you know if they were the same exact specs as the t2?

I got some new info on this transmission. I got the car running with the weird transmission and I noticed that the metal cover that you put the bolts in that holds the shifter down was different than the stock one. I tried to put the stock on in, but I could not make the holes line up. I had to search my garage for the one that came with this weird transmission and that one fit. It still seems to use the same shifter bearings, but the bottom ball on the shifter has a plastic notch instead of an all metal.

This transmission is really "whiny". When I have the clutch in it makes no noise, but when I have it out I can hear a constant electrical engine sound. Also the sound gets faster as RPMs increase. Really sounds like a electric car or a big truck or something. Maybe you had something with the ranger truck transmission.

I am thinking now that I should take the transmission out and put in a regular t2 transmission. Who knows if this transmission is super weak... made to only handle the power of an NA mazda truck. O.o
