Question Intecooler Setup

AS some of you may know, a last month I was acting stupid, b/c I was talking about getting a 240sx w/a RB20 orRB25 in it. I am over that stuff for now. OK so some of you might know that I am buying my RX7 somewhere around June, and my dad was going to let me get a T2 engine swaped in since the engine in the RX7 (FC3S) is blown. But here is my question would it be better for me to go front mount inteccoler or V-mount? The reason I am asking is to save my intercooler in the case of a wreck. Since I will have some wrecks because this is my first car. What do all off you think?

By the way I will post some pics of my Friend's 240sx with a RB25 in it that made we want one so bad. You guys will understand. I hope?

Maybe get a Mustang, crash it, then get an RX-7.
You'll appreciate it more.

A 240 is OK - just different.

Leave the I/C in the stock position.

^^^agreed! for now if your now going to be taking it over 11psi and around 250hp you should be fine with stock intercooler. THey are cheap and on top away from potential damage.

if you leave the intercooler as stock it will be on top of the engine so unless you flip your car you wont have to worry about hurting it in a wreck. If you do it this way then youll also need to get a TII hood to put on your car

My intake temps at 15 PSI on a track day with 105 degree track surface temps were 115 degrees!!!!

On the road the other night in 50 Degree weather it was 85 degrees at 15 PSI at the end of a third gear pull.... not to shabby for a 300 dollar IC!!!!!!!!

ONE problem with mounting the IC inside the frame rails...... in the summer heat, i have to run the stock fan... my Black Magic just doesn't have enough *** to pull through the IC in the heat.. Problem is that by puttting the IC in between the frame rails.... you loose 3 inches on each side for the end tanks... thus, you are now dealing with a 20X8 inch air path versuse a 26X8 inch air path... 48 Square inches of area gone and the remaining 160 inches are filled with the IC core which is very free flowing for an IC, but isn't exactly an open door..

Now that winter is here, the Black Magic has no problems, but in summer, its got problems. The stock fan, however, the water temps never go above 195 degrees.. ever.

I'm going to a Vent Hood in the spring, that should help out a LOT.

I've also been looking at that E-Bay front bumper which has the vents across the midline.

All In All, I like my IC even though right now i still have to run the stock motor driven Fan in 80+ degree weather

BTW.... by my estimates... my car has between 325 and 375 HP as it sits (weight versus track times) but i haven't got it on a dyno yet, that will prove the pudding.) BUT... more horsepower breeds more heat... nature of the beast.

BUT.... the stock IC position is COMPLETELY RETARDED unless the car is moving, and when you are cranking boost on a launch... guess what, you're crankin boost through an IC that has been sitting atop a HOT engine long enough to heatsoaik itself to death..... Even a Stock 7 will benifit from moving the IC up front...

i say take care of that rx7 trust me. i know from experience...its like nothing you'll ever drive in your life...thankfully i found a shell to put in my t2 engine, plus if you're not sure about driving well then don't get an rx7...get yourself a civic or something, like sureshot said, you'll learn to appreciate it even more.
