Intake temp

I've read numerous times about people using those cheasy RadioShack indoor/outdoor thermometers to measure intake temps (usually in reference to con filter conversions). Has anyone considered taping the signal wire from the intake temp sensor on the fire-wall side of the throttle body, and using an electric gauge from that?

I've got one of those. They're reasonably accurate; their problem is their slow response time. But they do give a general idea; enough to tell if a heat shield or cold air feed has made a difference, as opposed to giving super accurate readings.

How are you going to calibrate it? It has a logarithmic output (see it's figures in the FSM), so it's not a plug 'n' play idea. You need specific electronics between the sensor and the display.

If you want to make very fast acting, very accurate, reasonably priced DIY digital temp meter, using a far more accurate K-type thermocouple, read these articles.
