INtake question

I have removed my lower intake manifold and i have found that there isnt a coolant passage into the rear housing, where the o-rings are. I was wondering how this is possible and if it is deadly to my engine. ITs an 87 TII.

Thats how its suppose to be. At least thats how my 88 TII was.
