Question Intake Installation for N/A

So far ive disconnected the battery and got the stock air-filter box out . So far so good. Until I noticed there was some kind of wiring for a sensor on the bottom of the stock box. Do I need it connected? Did i buy the wrong intake? ( i have the ebay one with the piping and all, i now wish i got the adaptor plate one).

I got the K&N air filter from... somewhere, can't remember. I removed the air intake over the fan shroud and the filter. The filter just bolted straight onto the AFM and I didn't have any other problems. So I'm not sure what your talking about with some wire. Pics?

That'd be the Air Flow Meter. You need that on there.

Most likely the AFM sensor. It is required to run the engine. It should be cone shaped, and its inbetween the stock air box and the throttle body intake duct. With your new intake you should have adapters to accomodate the AFM.

The sensor at the bottom of the airbox is the Air Flow Meter (AFM). It must remain connected to the wiring and on the intake after the filter for the car to run.

That won't work for an S4 turbo either. Might work for the S5 cars, since the AFM is round on both ends.

If I were to chose between the intake you got and the stock system, i'd pick the stock system. It's getting lower temp air through the stock fresh air duct. The cone, apart from being a cheapy paper one, is going to suck in hot a$$ air.

the cone should just go on the afm with the metal ring. anyways just having a cone filter is fine but it will get heat so youll want to make a home depot 'cold air box' to help prevent sucking in hot engine bay air. i noticed a performance drop when just using the cone filter in hot city traffic. on the highway it would be just fine but i definitly recomend finding a way to get it colder air.

Yea I got it on, and it seemed to suck more air yet no performance gains. Ill definately design some kind of a cold air box for it.
