Instructions for 2nd Gen fuel filter...?
Instructions for 2nd Gen fuel filter...?
I was hoping for somebody to give me some detailed instructions on how to replace my fuel filter on my 88. Or perhaps somebody knows of a site I can go to for some step by step instructions. I have searched this site but found no specific 2nd gen instructions just some troublesome 3rd gen ones.
Thanks for your help!

It is located under the driver's side "rail frame" of the car next to the front of the transmission. You will need a 10 or 12 mm socket to remove the bracket it sits in. After you remove the bracket it is really straight forward how to replace it.
when putting it back on then you should leave the clamp a little loose so that you can twist the filter to accomodate the fuel hoses.
Good luck! Any questions please ask because I have changed mine 3 times. Email: trekbike1000@yahoo.com

I just replaced mine a few days ago ('90 TII) and all work was done from under the car.
I used the following: 10mm socket w/std. extension, 8mm wrench, pliers (to squeeze the line clamps), MagLite.
1. Loosen the 8mm tension screw so that the filter can slide up and down in the clamp bracket.
2. Remove the 2 - 10mm bolts holding the filter clamp bracket to the car so that you have a bit more room to maneuver the filter.
3. Remove bottom hose from filter.
4. Remove upper hose from filter (you'll have to twist a bit - the upper was tougher for me)
Make sure you have eye protection and spread some news paper for it to drain. There'll be a cup or two.
