Question Installing Cruise Control

I have an '87 RX-7 Non Turbo. I bought a cruise unit (Cruise Actuator, Cruise Control Unit for under the drivers side kickplate, and the switch). The unit came from a 1990 Rx-7. I installed the actuator and then went to install the cruise unit under the kickplate but the wiring harness does not fit. Will I be able to cut the harness out of the 1990 unit and splice it onto my wires to hookup to the cruise unit? Are they compatible but just have a different harness? Thanks!

Sorta not compatible, but compatible.

First did you get the T2 cruise body or the NA cruise body. The NA one will require a vacume line hook up, and since you have a T2 you loose vacume while driving under boost.

Second yes the wire colors will match up if you have the T2 cruise, but the pins and plugs will be slightly different.

Stop right there.....

You have the WRONG CRUISE SYSTEM...

It frightens me terribly that you would sooner HACK your wiring up than simply get the right system.

If you proceed, you will definately FRY your ECU.

Obtain the cruise system from a 87 (series 4) 2nd gen car and you'll plug right in.

Somewhere I actually HAVE a cruise computer that fits your car.

You will still need the remaining peices to run this right.

DO NOT CUT YOUR HARNESS.

Sheesh....

And cluttering the engine bay, is not a concern for most.

Although a clean bay is nice, having a car that has the factory addons that you like is more important.

Just make sure that you replace the part of your decision making process that told you to cut the harness first, with a process that tells you to get the right part first.

You'll spend less time fixing your car and more time driving it if you do.

yeah I gotta agree with Sniper there. You should be using the right part rather than hacking up the car...

Damm why didn't I say that too???

That is why I asked! I didn't want to do anything to mess up the car...Next question is:

Where is the best place to get the part? Is it ok to still use the actuator and the switch? Thanks for the feedback!
