installed short shifter (no hook to snap the shifter in)

Hey guys I was just wondering when I put my shoft shifter in I found that there was no hook to snap the shifter into place? what could have happend to it?

My shortshifter rattles like a bastard. Still havent been able to pinpoint the rattle.

well isn't there something that when you put the new shifter into the hole you have to do it firmly because it will snap in? Mine didn't do that at all?
