Installed new clutch, can't shift into gear.

Installed an ACT clutch xtreme pressure plate and clutch disc. I read about installing the clutch through the forums and paid attention to many things. Made sure I put the clutch disc in the right way, flushed the cylinder and slave and bled. The clutch pedal feels the way it should and the clutch fork is moving about 1-1/2 inches. I didn't get the flywheel resurfaced because I couldn't get the nut off, but I borrowed a hoist and will pull the motor tommorow morning so I can put it on a stand and get the flywheel resurfaced and see if there is a noticeable problem, since I am having the problem of it not disengaging. When the motor is running I cannot shift into gear.

The only thing that caught my attention was that the clutch fork pivot ball looked questionable so I sanded more of a groove in it and bent the clip around it to be sure it stayed in place.

So my main question is if anyone else seen a problem with the pivot ball on the clutch fork.

My other thought was that it could be a bad cylinder or slave, but each time I bleed there is no sign of air bubbles and the pedal is stiff as it ever was.

Guess I found the answer

I didn't know what the pivot ball is supposed to look like. I didn't notice if there was a broken bolt, but if it looks like the picture from mazda trix there is probably a broken bolt somewhere becaue mine looks like the second picture. Shitty, knew something looked wierd, but I guess should have looked around for a picture before I put the tranny back in! Definitely if there is relatively no pivot or place for it to pivot from the clutch won't disengage.

yeah, those pivot ***** tend to break quite often. mine had snapped off exactly like yours did. that is the reason why you cant get into gear because the clutch fork has no leverage to push on the pressure plate.

Yeah, word up. I'm suprised at how well the clutch was working, like at the fact that it was working at all before. Perhaps the pressure plate was getting weak or something, because I can't believe I was even able to drive around.

one way i got around it for a little bit was that i moved the clutch fork around a little so that it sat in a position that got it some leverage. but that didnt last long. even if you can get it to move around, try not to drive it. my 1st gear synchros are worn out from me constatly jamming it into gear - lol

Where is that located? I'm having similar problems as you.

There is a clip on the clutch fork that looks like it helps to center the clutch fork and keep the pivot lined up in its seat. In my case I thought it was to hold the pivot in place cause I just had a little nub left and didn't know it was supposed to be attached somewhere. But definintely gotta get the tranny off just to look at it, I don't wanna waste my Redline MT-90 I just put in so I'm gonna use a hoist and pull the engine, and with the A/C and P/S removed it should prove to be less of a workout than benchpressing the tranny out of and into place, plus with more space then I might be able to get the damn flywheel nut off .
