Improving fuel economy

Hello to all I posted a while back about increasing the fuel economy on my 88 gxl (manual 5 spd). I was getting 125 miles on a full tank of 87 octane not happy about that. Since then I changed the fuel filter and I noticed a gain in fuel economy. Before the fuel filter change I was averaging about 60 miles on 5.1 gallons of 87 octane gas. After the fuel filter I am averaging 80 miles on 5.1 gallons. Bare in mind this is with conservative driving. Its great that my mileage increased, but I still think I should be doing better. My question to all the experts, What would be the next thing to check and or change? I do quite a bit of driving and Im really looking to increase the mileage. I changed the spark plugs 7 months ago when I bought the car. How often should they be replaced? I have pulled them out and cleaned them a couple of times. Thanks again for all your help---Ren

Replace the o2 sensor, another one of the first items to swap when you have bad mileage.

change dem plugs

I change my plugs twice a year... and i only put less than 7K per year on my car... and they ALWAYS need it when they are changed!!! Rotarys eat spark plugs, its the nature of the beast... also... if you've modded the car... i could be running rich or lean depending on what you've done to it... if the EGR is messed up, it'll cause problems too.

A super ACF II will cost ya 300 bucks, but if you use it to lean the car out for highway driving, you might save it in gas over a year, they have two "maps" so you can set one up to get good gas mileage and one to rip and tear, just dont rip and tear on the lean one or you'll rip and tear yourself right out of an engine!!!

Other things.... How much junk you got in the trunk??? (car, i mean ) weight will make a big difference, get rid of everything you don't need.

Tires... make sure that they are fully inflated (if you got stock rims, 35psi), flat tires cause great amounts of drag

Tranny Fluid and Dif Fluid.... if they are low, can cause friction... drag.. reduce efficiency.

by conservative... you mean shifting at less than 5k right?????
