I'm going to do the water trick.....
I'm going to do the water cleaning trick on my 91 N/A tomorrow. 70K on a rebuilt engine. To me it's kinda scary with what I've heard about carbon deposits breaking loose and trashing an internal seal. Before I do guys, does anyone recommend I not do this? I plan to run about a quart of water through the vacuum lines into the intake.

Don't waste your time. If there's anything that causes carbon deposits to break off and mess up the engine, it's actually trying to clean them off without first disassembling the engine.
All you need to do is drive the car in a spirited way, and keep it in tune.

Water trick is fine but dosnt do much. Use sea foam, same method.
I bought my S5 3 months ago. Original Motor 75k miles.
First time i did it (with sea foam) the car belched LOTS of blue smoke for the whole first half of the can while it was burning away the carbon. Did a second can 500miles later. No blue smoke that time just a little bit of white smoke.
I had a friend hold it at about 4000 rpms while it was drinking the sea foam.
I also ran two tanks of gas with a bottle each in succession.
I had the compression tested before and after the process and not only did compression improve but became more consistent on all faces.
Before it was between 6.7 and 7.0 on all faces. After the process it read 6.9-7.1.
Car revs quicker, runs and idles more smoothly.
Sea Foam is a true miracle product.
I have yet to find a place around here that has the arosol sea foam because i hear that stuff works wonders on the throtle body.
This is not the first 7 i've owned and i've used sea foam on many of my cars/trucks over the years.
