Im back with good news

well, this news is somewhat sad, but good at the same time. The kid that I had sold my GXL too blew it up the other day. He tossed an Apex seal in it, and the motor is completely shot. The good news is, that I bought the car back from him for $500! My dad has been craving a Porsche or a decent Beemer for a long time, but I convinced him otherwise. I told him that I will give him my N/A, and that we will completely rebuild the entire car, from the ground up. I also told him that he'll have a car that will outperform any 944 or any **** like that, and cost just as much, maybe less. Not to mention he will have something no one else does, and be able to say he built it with his son.

So here is the plan. I thought about the turbo route, but I don't want to do that conversion and give my father a car that isnt reliable, or is going to cost alot. I searched around and found revolution rotary selling reman engines. So im purchasing one from them. Here are all the upgrades im planning on doing. We are working with about $14,000 here, so I'd like some input and/or suggestions about some things.

Engine: 13B NA from revolution rotary, upgrade package with 3mm seals, and streetported. We're gonna polish the thing, and completely redo everything under the hood. Im getting rid of the corksport exhaust and putting headers on it, keeping the bonez cat, and probably putting the Greddy power extreme dual on it. I like the looks of it alot better, and it will be a little easier on my dads ears.

Drivetrain: I know that I can use my stock GXL tranny and LSD, but I was curious if there would be any benefits in upgrading to a T2 transmission. Im putting in a mazdaspeed shift kitm and I am also planning on a new lightweight flywheel, and a nicer centerforce clutch. Also new Final Drive gears that are better suited to quicker acceleration.

Suspension. I like the Tokico Illuminas so we will keep them. The ride height is fine as well, so im gonna keep the racing beat springs. I would like to put all new tie rods, boots, clean and paint the axles, new polyurethane bushings, and a new steering rack. I would also like to put a nice rust proof undercoating on the bottom of the car to seal everything.

Interior: I am stripping the whole interior. Getting a new gauge cluster, new center console, and having the dash and doors re-upholstered in black leather. I am also getting a new black carpet set for the whole car, and putting 2 black MOMO seats in with 5 point harnesses. probably covering one of the storage bins with plexiglass and mounting a mild 10' sub in there for some decent sound. Im also planning on a custom stereo that isnt earth shattering, but just has some good quality sound.

Exterior: We're going with a body kit on this one. I love the Knightsport kit, but its really expensive. I was thinking of possibly getting the Corksport Type 2 rear bumper and side skirts, and maybe the Knightsport front end. Im not definite on what im doing for a kit yet, but it is definitely getting one. Any dents or dings will be fixed, and the car is going to be painted a deep black color with a light metallic red flake in the paint. Im stripping all the side mouldings and filling them in, and keeping the 86 style tailights, but painting them to match the body. Im also selling the 16" Konig wheels that I have and putting a set of 17"s on there to accept wider tires, something that looks like those Volk wheels because I love them. They will probably be a gunmetal finish as well because I think it offsets the black nicely. The car will also have no badging on it whatsoever.

Im sure there is more that im forgetting right now, but that is the plan. ITs kind of nice having your father bankroll you to build him a beautiful car, and make it however you want. Anyways, let me know what you think of the plan. Im not looking for a speed demon here, I just want a car that has sufficient power, handles like God, looks like God, and can hang in the turns with most anything else out there. I will also probably have a hell of a lot of parts for sale, so I will keep everyone posted on that.

little note, the bonez cat will not bolt up to an aftermarket header. aftermarket headers are made longer for performance increase and takes up the space of the precats just like the bonez cat removes the precats, so something will have to be slightly modified there. good luck on the project!

thanks, probably gonna just go with the stock manifold then for noise reduction.

Decided to go with the GP sports rear bumper, and side skirts, and the Knight Sports front end for the car. Gonna order it next week. Any suggestions on transmission? I know the tranny I have will handle it, but its older and i dont know if a T2 tranny will bolt up to what I have now, or if it would even make sense to put it in.
