Well, the illumination comes from a small bulb that shines through the lock cylinder and out through the key hole door. On door handles that have this option the key hole is made from white plastic so the light can be seen.
So if there is no light visible I few things could be wrong:
1) your car doesn't have this feature
2) the small light bulb is burnt out or the wire is broken
3) the switch or it's wires are broken
4) the CPU isn't detecting the switch due to a loose, disconnected or broken connection.
I have this option on my '91 GX on the driver's door, but not on the passanger door(?), but recently bought a replacement handle for the pass side and it has the switch and the bulb. These switches ( at least the driver door) are also part of the factory alarm system.
On a related topic, have you found a source for any more of the Jam Straight LED bulb's? The only ones I have so far are the Amber 194 replacements for the front side markers...

Yo 86gxl I checked out your car domain site. I like what you did with the front lenses. You used a 194 bulb? Where did you get the 194 socket?. I already have the holes on the lenses but didn't know what bulbs to place in there but I like your idea and it looks really good too. Good job.

My 90 vert is supposed to have it too. It doesn't work. If you find out what's wrong with yours, let me know. It's a frivolous item to worry about but since it had it, I'd like it to work.

My '90 vert has it also.
Mine works, but the white plastic cover has split in half and I had to remove it for my key to go in. So it still lights up but there is no cover for it now.
Anyone have a spare white key cover?
Also, the passenger side does not have it and is a regular metal keyhole cover.
