Ignition system for 87'
Ignition system for 87'
Hi I'm a bit new here.. I'm building a rotary powered locost (Lotus Seven Replica)
I'm using a Sidedraft weber settup and was wondering what people do about the
ignition system. Can you use the Engine ECU for just the Ignition?? is there a
good standalone system that can be adapted to the Rotary's odd firing
scheme?? It looks like an early distributor will/might work with what? two coils?
any help woul be appreciated..
Emissions is not a concern.. I'm going for simplicity light weight and no clutter.
Thanks,
Marc

If you insist on using a carb, you will also need to convert to a distributer. The stock ECU will not be happy without the AFM.
Get the dizzy from an '82+ RX-7. You will also need the two ignition coils (or aftermarket coils). All dizzyies earlier then '82 are points setups while the 82+ units use ignitors (so no need for ballast resistors).
Or, you could spend $200 on a Megasquirt and keep your fuel injection and ignition system.

yep sounds like a dizzy is what you need. get a complete unit with ignitors.
if you try to mimic the older dizzy setup rotaries you will only need 2 coils, 6 plug wires. check out the ignition setups on the 1st gen 7s for an example.
