Unhappy Ignition Perhaps?

My 86' GXL has started dying out. The problem only begins after car is well warmed up and does not appear to be a function of rpm range. Engine simply cuts of for a second or two and then resumes thrust. Effect is same as when rev limiter kicks in. A bleed from fuel line shows pressure specs out fine at all rpms. I am led to conclude ignition trouble (I feel recently replaced plugs and wires are unlikely sources of trouble). Any hints or tips greatly appreciated,
