ignition cylinder/tumbler help
k so about a week or so ago i tried to start my fc and i turned the key to on and it snapped off... now about 90% of the key is stuck inside, ive got a WTB thread up right now asking for a new cylinder and key, but no bites. i found an s5 cylinder on ebay but i have an s4, im wondering if this matters or not? also if theres anything else i can do to solve this problem that doesnt involve me spending 180 bucks at advanced auto to get a branddd new one.

Mazdatrix indicates there is a bit of a difference between S4 and S5

What you could do is remove the assembly and see if you can make any head way fixing it or take it to a locksmith and see if they can be any assistance. To remove the assembly just remove the plastic housing that surrounds it by removing the screws present and then to remove the assembly you will see that the bolts that fasten it to the steering column have no grooves in them to unscrew them. Some people elect to use vice grips to pull them out but the easier method would be to take a Dremel type tool and cut a groove/slot into the bolt and then simply take a screwdriver to it to do the deed and unscrew them. Simple enough!

The link I provided you takes you directly to the page you need. The ignition assembly is pictured in the upper right of the page and if you look closely at the right side of the actual pic it shows a key in the cylinder. As stated earlier, it is easy to remove the key assembly so try that and see where that takes you. What do you have to lose?
tried looking on mazdatrix guess i didnt look in the right place, thanks for the link.. if you look in the picture pretty much the handle is all thats left of the key thats not stuck inside so if i can get it out im wondering if i can get a new one made, cause nothings physically wrong with the ignition just the key was old, id really prefer that haha
